Assistant Underwriting Manager
About the role
The State of California is seeking an Assistant Underwriting Manager to support the management of the Regional Office's underwriting function. This position reports to the Pleasanton location (Greater Bay Area Region) and works closely with the Regional Underwriting Manager.
Responsibilities
- Support the management of the Regional Office’s underwriting function to achieve Budget Plan objectives while upholding all corporate and regulatory advisories, guidelines, and procedures.
- Effectively lead, coach, and develop staff while fostering strong employee engagement.
- Collaborate across regions, departments, and business segments to meet operational needs and enterprise wide objectives.
- Oversee underwriting and policy servicing functions, ensuring compliance with corporate underwriting and marketing standards.
- Acquire, develop, and retain an assigned book of business.
- Recruit, hire, train, develop, appraise, and discipline staff as needed.
- Plan, organize, direct, and control the operations of the assigned underwriting unit.
- Contribute to the Policy Operations and Regional Office leadership team.
- Build and maintain strong professional relationships with the broker community and monitor broker trends.
- Uphold integrity in every aspect of the workplace.
- Deliver high quality customer service in a timely and professional manner.
Requirements
This position requires occasional overnight travel up to five days in duration to any of our State Fund locations.

Pay
The starting salary range for this position is $7,580.00 - $9,416.00 per month.
Schedule
This is a 12 month Limited Term Position which may be extended to 24 months, or become Permanent.
