Assistant Trailer Technician

Responsibilities

• Inspects, adjusts and repairs trailers with minor problems.
• Ensures equipment is functioning properly and within Department of Transportation compliance.
• Troubleshoots electrical/mechanical malfunctions on air brakes, switches, lighting circuits, control valves, relief valves, and other items.
• Adjusts mechanical items such as doors and slack adjusters.
• Performs light maintenance such as replacing/repairing marker lights, seals, airbags and mud flaps.
• Performs trailer body repairs such as patching of roofs, panels, rail repairs, door sections, floor sections, cross-member replacement, etc.
• Makes minor welding repairs.
• Repairs/replaces tires, wheel bearings and seals.
• Changes fluids and filters as necessary.
• Replaces and adjusts brakes for proper function.
• Inspects and cleans parts; submits orders if part must be replaced.
• Confirms proper function of equipment and truck after maintenance.

Qualifications

• A High School Diploma or GED;
• 6 months to two years mechanic experience and/or training;
• Must meet inspector qualifications outlines by FMCSA section CFR 396.17;
• Licensed Mechanic Journeyman preferred.
