Auto Ramp Services (ARS) is a contractor providing top-notch quality control service to the railroad industry. As part of Professional Transportation, Inc., ARS has been delivering safe, reliable auto loading and unloading services since 1980. The team unloads railcars according to industry standards, manages 24/7 gate administration, and performs daily inventory control for new and used vehicles.

About the role

This position is responsible for the safe and quality handling of customer and company property, specifically the movement of vehicles on and off railroad equipment. The role involves working outdoors in all weather conditions, driving, and unloading vehicles to and from rail cars.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure policies and procedures set by the company and customers are followed.
  • Coordinate day-to-day activities of unloaders and checkpoint personnel, including scheduling and liaising with trucking companies.
  • Monitor and assist with the performance of unloaders, actively participating in unload processes.
  • Ensure checkpoint procedures for inventory control are followed, including scanning loaded inventory.
  • Maintain communication between the company and railroad customers.
  • Respond to customer needs with a flexible schedule to ensure compliance.
  • Promote and practice safety awareness.
  • Provide daily reporting and communication with customers.
  • Safely work outdoors in all weather conditions, adjust rail cars, and move vehicles off rail cars for pickup or shipment.
  • Drive both manual and automatic transmission vehicles, including oversized vehicles.
  • Work in tight and narrow spaces.
  • Participate in job briefings with supervisors and crew before work begins.
  • Wear required Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), such as safety vests, high-visibility shirts, safety glasses, hearing protection, and safety-toe boots.
  • Maintain clear communication with crew members while moving vehicles.
  • Inspect rail equipment and vehicles for damage and report any issues immediately.
  • Handle all rail equipment and vehicles safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain awareness and organization within the auto yard, including attention to ground surfaces (potholes, debris, slippery conditions).

Requirements

  • Full-time position with availability to work weekends and some holidays.
  • Early morning start time at 7:00 AM.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule and be dependable.
  • Ability to operate related computer applications and business equipment.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and extensive background check.
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
  • Physically demanding role requiring bending, squatting, leaning, and moving plates to span rail cars.
  • Must be able to see and hear moving equipment.
  • Must not be afraid of heights.
  • Ability to learn and follow strict guidelines and instruct employees accordingly.

Pay

$21–$23 per hour.

Schedule

Early morning start time at 7:00 AM, with a flexible schedule including weekends and some holidays.
