Assistant Tennis Coach
Position Summary
Salem College, an NCAA Division III institution and member of the USA South Athletic Conference, invites applications for the position of Assistant Women’s Tennis Coach. The Assistant Coach will support the Head Women’s Tennis Coach in all aspects of the tennis program while helping provide a positive, competitive, and student-centered experience for Salem College student-athletes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in planning and conducting practices, workouts, and individual skill-development sessions.
- Provide instruction and coaching during practices and competitions.
- Aid in match preparation, scouting reports, lineup management, and opponent analysis.
- Help recruit and retain qualified student-athletes who align with Salem College’s academic and athletic mission.
- Mentor student-athletes and support their personal, academic, and athletic development.
- Promote a positive team culture focused on sportsmanship, accountability, leadership, and teamwork.
- Aid in equipment management, facility preparation, and match-day operations.
- Support team fundraising efforts, community engagement activities, and departmental events.
- Maintain compliance with NCAA Division III, USA South Conference, and Salem College rules and regulations.
- Aid in travel planning and team logistics.
- Drive a college-owned 15-passenger van to transport student-athletes to competitions, recruiting events, and other team-related activities as assigned.
Qualifications
- HS Diploma required (bachelor’s degree Preferred)
- Previous playing and/or coaching experience at the high school, club, or collegiate level preferred
- Strong knowledge of fundamentals, strategies, and player development
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
- Commitment to supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion
Physical Functions
- Sit for varying lengths of time
- Bend, reach, lift, push, and pull up to 25 pounds
- Occasionally stand, walk, and kneel
- Regularly ascend/descend stairs
- Use hands and fingers to handle or feel and manipulate keys on a keyboard
- Perform extended periods of work at a computer workstation, view a computer monitor
- Perceive sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction
- Express and exchange ideas by means of spoken word
- Work in an office setting
