Characteristics
- Assist with the supervision and teaching of children ages six weeks to ten years of age with daily care routines and implementation of age appropriate lessons and activities aligned with best practice, state licensing rules and regulatory and accreditation standards.
Minimum Qualifications
- Working knowledge of theories and principles of childhood growth and development from birth through ten years of age.
- Knowledge of child behavior.
- Knowledge of first aid, safety, sanitation and nutrition pertaining to Early Childhood Education standards of best practice.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with children, parents, and other staff.
- Ability to plan and organize own work and creative activities for children.
- Effective interpersonal communication skills in speaking, writing and listening.
Education and Experience
- Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field, or current enrollment in WCTC's Early Childhood Education program.
- Eighty (80) hours of training in Early Childhood Education or a diploma from a one year Child Care Services Program or Child Development Associate (CDA) or two (2) years of college credit with three (3) credits in Early Childhood Education.
- Eighty (80) full days or 120 half-days experience providing direct child care as a teacher or volunteer in a licensed child care center, kindergarten or be certified as a nursery school teacher through the Department of Public Instruction.
- For those working with children two (2) years of age and younger, experience in working with children two (2) years of age or younger is preferred; or, a minimum of 10 hours of training in infant and toddler care; or 10 hours of training in infant and toddler care is required within six (6) months of hire.
