About the role
The YWCA Greater Harrisburg is seeking an Assistant Teacher for their Pre-K Counts program.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct supervision of children in the assigned classroom.
- Maintain classroom according to DPW regulations and communicate effectively with the children and fellow staff to assure a positive and pleasant group atmosphere.
- Follow established emergency and accident procedures and provide an immediate response to quickly comfort children in distress.
- Communicate directly with the children, encouraging and guiding them in age-appropriate activities providing regular and meaningful interaction.
- Aid with attendance and other records as required.
- Attend trainings and maintain any and all certifications.
Requirements
- Associates degree or higher in early childhood education
- Must have Child Development Associate (CDA) credential.
- Minimum of two (2) years experience working with diverse groups of young children.
- Thorough understanding of the principles of child development and preschool educational methods.
- Ability to be mentally alert and observant at all times when responsible for children.
- Ability to speak and read clearly to communicate easily with children under care with knowledge of language development and understanding.
- FBI, Child Abuse, and State Police Clearances
