Assistant Teacher, Middle/Upper Instrumental Music

Latin School of Chicago provides a rigorous and innovative educational program in a community that embraces diversity of people, cultures, and ideas. The school is seeking an Instrumental Music Assistant Teacher, primarily for fifth‑through‑twelfth‑grade band, with additional assistance for chorus classes. The Assistant Teacher program’s goal is to give each participant an authentic teaching and learning experience under the supervision of a lead music teacher.

Responsibilities

• Assist the lead teacher in day‑to‑day classroom operations, including prepping materials and activities, clean‑up, and organization of materials.
• Help promote a safe, clean, and orderly environment for students in grades 5‑12.
• Build positive relationships with students, faculty, and families.
• Assist in the development and implementation of the curriculum (as interest and skills allow).
• Assist in instructing students as directed by the music teachers, consistently checking in with them throughout class periods.
• Assist in grading papers and student evaluation/documentation under the direction of the lead teacher.
• Assist with all aspects of planning and participating in field trips as directed.
• Work one‑on‑one with students to support their learning.

Pay

Starting salary for this full‑time position is $31,799.
