Assistant Teacher II (Powder Mill Campus-Beltsville, MD)

About the role

The Assistant Teacher II supports teachers in implementing the program for a diverse group of students, focusing on academic, medical, developmental, and technological needs as outlined in their IEPs.

Responsibilities

• Assists with the implementation of instruction in accordance with students' IEPs in collaboration with a supervising teacher.
• Prepares for and participates in parent conferences and interdisciplinary team meetings.
• Assumes responsibilities during after-school emergencies, including student supervision, phone communication, and written documentation.
• Supports and leads curricular and extra-curricular activities, special events, and projects that enhance the school experience.
• Provides independent instruction, supervision, and classroom management in the absence of the supervising teacher.
• Implements behavioral protocols and assignments for students during instructional and non-instructional times.
• Utilizes instructional and non-instructional times in a professional manner consistent with administrative guidelines.
• Participates in and contributes to in-service training and staff meetings.
• Affords assistance in the implementation of technology in instructional design and delivery as directed by the supervising teacher.

Qualifications

• Professional Crisis Management (PCM) training provided by the department.
• Must achieve and maintain certification (at the “Practitioner” level or higher) according to departmental policy.
• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Previous experience working with children with developmental disabilities preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to perceive sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction.
• Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and make discriminations in sound.
• Occasional lifting and carrying of students requiring assistive and/or adaptive equipment.
• Lifting, carrying, and restraining students as needed to implement approved behavioral management techniques.

Pay

• $21.20/Hr.
• $26.94/Hr.
