About the role
The Assistant Teacher II supports teachers in implementing the program for a diverse group of students, focusing on academic, medical, developmental, and technological needs as outlined in their IEPs.
Responsibilities
- Assists with the implementation of instruction in accordance with students' IEPs in collaboration with a supervising teacher.
- Prepares for and participates in parent conferences and interdisciplinary team meetings.
- Assumes responsibilities during after-school emergencies, including student supervision, phone communication, and written documentation.
- Supports and leads curricular and extra-curricular activities, special events, and projects that enhance the school experience.
- Provides independent instruction, supervision, and classroom management in the absence of the supervising teacher.
- Implements behavioral protocols and assignments for students during instructional and non-instructional times.
- Utilizes instructional and non-instructional times in a professional manner consistent with administrative guidelines.
- Participates in and contributes to in-service training and staff meetings.
- Affords assistance in the implementation of technology in instructional design and delivery as directed by the supervising teacher.
Qualifications
- Professional Crisis Management (PCM) training provided by the department.
- Must achieve and maintain certification (at the “Practitioner” level or higher) according to departmental policy.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Previous experience working with children with developmental disabilities preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to perceive sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction.
- Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and make discriminations in sound.
- Occasional lifting and carrying of students requiring assistive and/or adaptive equipment.
- Lifting, carrying, and restraining students as needed to implement approved behavioral management techniques.
Pay
- $21.20/Hr.
- $26.94/Hr.
