Responsibilities
- Aid in implementing instruction aligned with students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Work cooperatively with the Special Education Teacher to implement effective strategies for academic and behavioral success.
- Perform instructional-related tasks as directed by the Special Education Teacher and administrators.
- Oversee and manage classroom activities under the guidance of the Special Education Teacher.
- Execute behavioral protocols and assignments during both instructional and non-instructional periods.
- Operate in a professional manner consistent with administrative guidelines.
- Engage in and contribute to in-service training and staff meetings.
- Support and lead curricular and extracurricular activities aimed at enhancing the student experience and promoting a positive school atmosphere.
- Collaborate with the Special Education Teacher to integrate technology into instructional design and delivery.
- Ensure alignment of instruction with Maryland Core Learning Goals, Skills for Success, Content Standards, and specific Industry Standards.
Qualifications
- Must be capable of transporting, immobilizing, and restraining students requiring behavioral management support.
- Must be able to lift, push, pull, or carry a minimum weight of 25 pounds.
- Must be able to perform tasks such as kneeling, bending, stooping, twisting, and running.
- Must have the ability to perceive the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction.
- Must have the capacity to receive detailed information through oral communication and make discriminations in sound.
- Must have visual acuity to assess the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.
- Must complete Professional Crisis Management (PCM) training and maintain certification according to the department's timeline.
- May need to obtain and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid certifications, which will be provided by the department.
- Education: High school diploma or GED required. An associate’s degree in education, special education, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience: Previous experience working in a classroom with students who have disabilities is preferred.
Pay
Minimum pay range: USD $17.77/Hr.
Maximum pay range: USD $28.99/Hr.
