What You'll Do
- Maintain confidentiality regarding staff, children, and families at St. Joseph Children’s Home, Board of Directors, and/or Center operations.
- Collaborate with the Team Leader to complete an annual self-assessment using the ITERS/ECERS, and set achievable goals for the year based on the results of the self-assessment.
- Ensure the whereabouts and number of children in care are known at all times, keeping all children within sight and sound supervision.
- Verify the identity of adults picking up children, checking photo ID and ensuring they are on the list of approved escorts in the CDC database.
- Complete Name-to-Face attendance checks multiple times daily, as per policy and procedure.
- Absorb daily routines and activities under the guidance of the Senior Classroom Teacher, promoting physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development in young children.
- Limit screen time in the classroom, as directed by the Senior Teacher/Team Leader.
- Engage in age-appropriate play with children.
- Provide positive guidance, direction, and encouragement for each child using principles of Positive Discipline.
- Monitor children's development, documenting behavior and/or developmental concerns and reporting to the Senior Teacher and/or Team Lead.
- Greet children and families upon arrival and departure.
- Build trusting relationships between children, parents, and staff.
- Ensure all pertinent information regarding a child’s day is passed on to the responsible staff member.
- Complete incident reports for any illness, injury, or incident, and notify the Team Leader.
- Keep the Team Leader and Senior Teacher informed of any problems concerning children, staff, or families.
- Notify the Team Leader and Senior Teacher of urgent matters, including serious illness or injury, staff misconduct, or licensing violations.
- Absorb responsibilities for maintaining the assigned classroom, consistent with the vision for a unified, clean, Reggio-inspired environment.
- Use Center materials and supplies responsibly, safely, and engagingly for children.
- Return materials to their proper location for storage, ensuring they are cleaned and sanitized prior to storage if applicable.
- Solicit assistance from a Team Leader or Curriculum Coach for questions related to materials use or storage.
- Request needed supplies from the Team Leader at least 1 week prior to utilization.
- Prepare and serve meals and snacks to children, complying with CACFP guidelines and KY childcare regulations.
- Clean up after meals, including tables, chairs, and floors.
- Be aware of all children’s allergies and/or medical alerts in assigned classrooms.
- Communicate with the Senior Teacher and Team Lead regarding changes in allergies and/or medical alerts for individual children.
- Respond to electronic communications from CDC leadership in a timely manner.
- Absorb responsibilities for implementing at least one CDC family event per school year.
- Absorb responsibilities for participating in the SJCH Annual Picnic in the CDC area, working a 4-hour shift.
- Obtain required staff development and training.
- Attend all CDC department meetings and contribute to decision-making.
- Safely evacuate children from the building in case of emergency, and complete NAME TO FACE counts during drills.
- Be flexible in regard to daily classroom placement, and adapt to temporary assignments if needed to maintain state ratios or meet agency needs.
- Report any urgent building maintenance, repairs, or custodial upkeep to the Team Leader.
- Keep the classroom and shared spaces clean, safe, and free of clutter.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma (or equivalent) required.
- Experience working with children ages 0-5 preferred but not required.
- Typically either (1) Monday through Friday 8.5 hour shifts, between 7 AM and 6 PM, or (2) 7:30 AM – 6 PM up to 4 days per week.
- $500.00 Retention Bonus ($250 after 90 days and $250 after 6-months of satisfactory service).
