PRIMARY OBJECTIVE

The Assistant Teacher – Child Development Center (2nd) PT provides instructional, clerical and non-instructional support in the Child Development Center classroom, implementing a developmentally appropriate curriculum that aligns with the program's educational and philosophical goals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Adheres to the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct, demonstrating a professional attitude and work ethic, and respect for children, families, and colleagues.
  • Provides a safe, healthy environment for children, focusing on classroom health, hygiene, nutrition, and safety. Maintains a clean and orderly environment; ensures children attend to personal hygiene/hand washing; teaches children about health and nutrition; reports accidents, injuries, and illnesses to parents and supervisors.
  • Aids in the development and implementation of an environment and curriculum that promotes various developmental activities in language and literacy, cognition, social-emotional well-being, and physical health. Meets with teachers to discuss and consider Center goals, educational philosophy, and general curriculum plans.
  • Ensures children’s safety through constant supervision, storage of dangerous materials, and classroom and equipment maintenance.
  • Works with other teaching staff to create a nurturing, stimulating, non-punitive, and culturally sensitive environment that encourages language, self-expression, exploration, creativity, imaginative play, thinking skills, and positive relationships.
  • Participates in quality enhancement initiatives and staff meetings, planning, and professional development.
  • Maintains classroom atmosphere and requirements in the absence of the regular teacher.
  • Adheres to CCC Customer Service Excellence standards.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent with 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours of credit in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or a related field from birth to age six (6).
  • One year of work experience working with young children birth to 5 years required. Must attain Illinois Gateways to Opportunity Level 2 Early Childhood Education or Infant/Toddler Credential within one year of hire.
  • Candidate must be registered with Illinois Gateways to Opportunity and actively pursuing Level 4 credential in Infant/Toddler (IT) or Early Childhood Education (ECE).
  • Warm, supportive attitude towards children; flexibility in accepting assignments and adapting to changes; willingness to accept supervision and continue professional development.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with children, parents, and other staff members, and document children’s growth and learning.
  • Knowledge of creating and implementing developmentally appropriate lessons, interacting positively with children and other staff, and understanding physical, social, cognitive, health, and safety needs.
  • Ability to work in a culturally diverse environment with tact and diplomacy.
  • Computer and software operation skills required.

This position is represented by: Local 1600 CCCTU.
Salary range: $21.31-$24.59/hr, determined by collective bargaining agreement and applicant's qualifications.
