Assistant Teacher - Brooklyn - Birth - 2nd
Position Summary
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Assistant Teacher. In this role, the successful candidate will assist the Head Teacher in planning and implementing developmentally appropriate lessons; work with a team to provide a stimulating environment and activities; encourage parent involvement; set individual goals and record anecdotal observations for each child; keep the room clean; help with toileting; and perform other various classroom duties.
Job Responsibilities
- Inspects children for signs of illness or injury upon arrival
- Communicates directly with supervisor
- Readily accepts and responds to supervisory inputs accordingly
- Stays open to constructive criticism and suggestions
- Sets appropriate limits
- Reinforces positive behavior
- Aware of developmental levels / changes
- Uses a modulated, appropriate voice
- Supervises children closely and effectively throughout the day
- Always attends to children’s needs before everything else
- Attends and actively participates in staff meetings
- Cares for infants according to their individual schedules and takes care of them upon awakening
- Prevents SIDS
- Feeds children according to their individual needs, family input, and CACFP guidelines
- Files incident or accident reports accordingly and as needed
- Notifies parents and director when children are sick or get hurt
- Uses bleach solutions to clean toys and surfaces as required
- Uses the Germ Box effectively
- Follows the diaper changing / potty procedures for children accordingly and as needed
- Follows the When to Wash Hand policies as posted in the classroom
- Inspects outdoor and indoor play areas prior to play
Minimum Qualifications
- A High School Diploma or GED
- 1 year relevant experience
- Warm, caring and outgoing personality
- Able to work well with others
- Able to create and maintain positive relationships with children, parents and staff
Preferred Qualifications
- 2+ years experience in childcare
- Health and Safety Trainings
- CDA Certificate
- Associate or higher Degree in Early Childhood Education
- Bilingual
