Assistant Teacher

About the role

The Goddard School is seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team. This position will assist the Lead Teacher in implementing age-appropriate lesson plans, supporting children’s social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development, preparing classroom materials, ensuring a safe and inviting learning environment, supervising children, communicating with families, adhering to health and safety guidelines, and supporting daily care routines.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Lead Teacher in implementing age-appropriate lesson plans
• Support children’s social, emotional, cognitive and physical development through active engagement and positive interactions
• Prepare classroom materials and ensure a safe, clean and inviting learning environment
• Supervise and provide individualized support to children and foster a sense of belonging
• Absorb and communicate with families about their child’s progress and daily activities
• Adhere to health and safety guidelines and licensing regulations to ensure a secure environment
• Support daily care routines and tasks to promote a nurturing learning environment

Requirements

• High school diploma required; associate or bachelor's in Early Childhood Education preferred
• Previous experience working with young children in a licensed childcare or preschool setting
• Shows empathy and compassion for young children
• Works productively without supervision
• Basic understanding of child development
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. in connection with the handling of children

Qualifications

• Must pass required state background checks and meet state minimum education, experience and credential requirements

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Knowledge of child development and educational theories
