Assistant Teacher
About the role
The Goddard School seeks a dedicated and compassionate Early Childhood Educator to join our team. This position will assist the Lead Teacher in implementing age-appropriate lesson plans, supporting children’s development, and fostering a nurturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Absorb and implement age-appropriate lesson plans under the guidance of the Lead Teacher
- Engage children in active learning and positive interactions to enhance their social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development
- Prepare and maintain classroom materials to ensure a safe, clean, and inviting learning space
- Supervise children individually and promote a sense of belonging within the classroom community
- Communicate regularly with parents about their child’s progress and daily activities
- Adhere to health and safety guidelines and licensing regulations to maintain a secure environment
- Support daily care routines and tasks to create a nurturing learning atmosphere
Requirements
- A high school diploma is required, with an associate or bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education preferred
- Previous experience working with young children in a licensed childcare or preschool setting is preferred
- Show empathy and compassion towards young children
- Work effectively without direct supervision
- Have a basic understanding of child development
- Be able to lift up to 50 lbs. in connection with handling children
Qualifications
- Pass required state background checks and meet state minimum education, experience, and credential requirements
Skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and families
- Knowledge of child development stages
- Basic computer literacy
