Assistant Teacher

About the role

The Goddard School seeks a dedicated and compassionate Early Childhood Educator to join our team. This position will assist the Lead Teacher in implementing age-appropriate lesson plans, supporting children’s development, and fostering a nurturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Absorb and implement age-appropriate lesson plans under the guidance of the Lead Teacher
• Engage children in active learning and positive interactions to enhance their social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development
• Prepare and maintain classroom materials to ensure a safe, clean, and inviting learning space
• Supervise children individually and promote a sense of belonging within the classroom community
• Communicate regularly with parents about their child’s progress and daily activities
• Adhere to health and safety guidelines and licensing regulations to maintain a secure environment
• Support daily care routines and tasks to create a nurturing learning atmosphere

Requirements

• A high school diploma is required, with an associate or bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education preferred
• Previous experience working with young children in a licensed childcare or preschool setting is preferred
• Show empathy and compassion towards young children
• Work effectively without direct supervision
• Have a basic understanding of child development
• Be able to lift up to 50 lbs. in connection with handling children

Qualifications

• Pass required state background checks and meet state minimum education, experience, and credential requirements

Skills

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and families
• Knowledge of child development stages
• Basic computer literacy
