Overview of general responsibilities
As a member of the teaching team, work with the Lead Teacher to create a warm, welcoming, developmentally appropriate environment for a designated age group. Assist the teaching team in creating age-appropriate activities and lessons that support a child’s natural curiosity to learn. Participate in guiding children’s behavior in a positive manner and assist the teaching team in daily classroom routines.
Specific responsibilities
- Arrive 5 minutes prior to the shift and be prepared to start your workday on time.
- Be familiar with and follow the Rules and Regulations set by the New Hampshire Childcare Licensing Bureau.
- Complete the requirements for an Assistant Teacher position according to the New Hampshire Childcare Licensing Bureau; fingerprinting, background check, orientation, etc.
- Participate in general upkeep and tidiness of the classroom.
- Perform housekeeping tasks such as washing dishes and toys, sanitizing, and other cleaning tasks.
- Maintain a positive attitude toward work, coworkers, children, and families.
- Interact with children, families, and staff in a positive, respectful, friendly, and caring manner.
- Encourage children to develop self-help skills that are appropriate to their age.
- Become familiar with the center routine and ensure that it is followed, including known allergies, medications, etc. for children and staff.
- Collect and enter a minimum of 1 observation per child per week into Procare, and share with parents.
- Maintain classroom arrangement that is attractive, well-organized, and has functional arrangements for children to use.
- Maintain confidentiality of children, families, and staff.
- Ensure all written and verbal communication is approved through the Lead teacher.
- Complete needed daily reports and incident reports and has them signed by Lead Teacher on the day of the incident.
- Communicate with the Lead teacher on all accidents and illnesses.
- Attend staff meetings and in-service days.
- Signs in/out on Procare each time a classroom is entered or left for coverage.
- Welcome children & parents upon arrival and departure with a smile.
- Adhere to all policies within the Woodrow Fitness employee handbook and the Woodrow Fitness Safety Protocols.
- Safeguard the well-being of children at all times, including regular head counts.
- Provide guidance and re-direction when required; emphasize positive reinforcement; illustrate proper behavior/skills.
- Keep up to date with training hours required according to NH licensing.
Requirements
- Must have a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Will work under the direct supervision of at least a teacher-qualified FitKids employee.
- Minimum of 16 years of age.
- Meet NH licensing requirements for Assistant Teacher.
- Exhibit excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- CPR and First Aid certification required.
Physical Demands
- Safely lift small children up to 50 pounds.
- Bend, stoop, and kneel to children’s level.
- Ability to sit on the floor with children.
- Tolerance of loud noise.
- Exposure to bodily fluids.
- Ability to withstand strong odors.
