About the role
This position serves under direct supervision, performing instructional duties or delivering direct services to students or parents. It involves assisting teachers in designing and implementing educational programs and services, and may involve providing specialized support for students with special needs.
Responsibilities
- Assists teacher(s) with student academic goals, working with small groups or individuals.
- Affords support for classroom management and behavior, creating an appropriate learning environment.
- Serves as a supervisor during various school activities such as breakfast, recess, lunch, dismissal, special events, and programs.
- Supports the preparation of paperwork for ARD/IEP processes, including collecting and entering data for special education reports and documents.
- Assists in planning, preparing, and implementing differentiated instruction for individual students and groups.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Minimum of 48 college hours preferred.
- Experience working with children preferred.
- Texas Educational Aide Certification preferred or the ability to acquire it.
Skills and Abilities
- Effective communication in both written and oral forms with all levels of management, both internal and external to the district.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships both internally and externally to the district.
- Organizing special programs for assigned campuses.
- Using computers, including software, databases, spreadsheet, word processing software, calculator, copy machine, and telephone.
- Analyzing data.
- Using effective interview techniques, public speaking skills, and problem-solving skills.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
- Light Work: may require occasional light lifting.
- Nights and weekend activities occasionally required.
- Position in a classroom setting requiring intermittent speaking, standing, walking, and writing.
- Moderate travel required.
