About the role
The Assistant Teacher position at Bushwick Child and Family Center supports the lead teacher in creating an educational environment that meets the developmental needs of children aged 3-5 and their families.
Responsibilities
- Maintain a safe and sanitary environment following DOE and DOHMH regulations.
- Assist and support staff in planning and implementing programming that addresses the emotional, social, physical, cognitive, and language development of children and the group.
- Work cooperatively with the classroom team and coordinators to meet the children’s goals and objectives.
- Maintain developmentally appropriate equipment and materials in good condition and ensure children’s access and constructive use.
- Notify the Lead Teacher of any concerns or observations of the child's health and behavior.
- Communicate information about individual children to parents, consulting with the Lead Teacher before doing so.
- Participate in recordkeeping and curriculum planning, including ongoing assessment of children’s development.
- Attend and contribute to team meetings, multi-disciplinary case conferences, and parent meetings.
- Develop and maintain positive and professional working partnerships with parents.
- Collaborate with other teachers and staff to communicate information about child development and individual children to parents.
- Assist with standardized developmental and behavioral screenings and follow up with any needed interventions.
- Support children with diagnosed special needs and assist teachers with in-home visits and parent/teacher conferences.
- Follow applicable state regulations and agency policies regarding preventing and reporting child maltreatment.
- Participate in coaching opportunities, professional development training, and all required trainings and meetings.
- Contribute to annual performance evaluations to set short- and long-term professional goals.
- Perform special projects and duties as assigned and required.
Requirements
- High school diploma.
- Associates of Arts in Early Childhood Education preferred; assistant teaching credential must be obtained within 3 months of hire.
- Experience working with families and children aged 3-5 and their families.
- Ability to work with children and families with special developmental, social, or cultural needs.
- Ability to maintain written records and manage time to ensure the completion of assigned work.
- Ability to work collaboratively and provide leadership.
- Ability to lift 35 pounds quickly and regularly.
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred but not required.
SkillsKnowledge of DOE and DOHMH regulations.
Benefits
This position is full-time, Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 3:30pm, 9:00am - 4:30pm, 10:00am - 5:30pm, or 10:30am - 6:00pm, contingent on funding availability.
Pay
The salary range for this position is $33,592 - $35,494 based on union contract and credentials.
Schedule
The schedule for this position is full-time, Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 3:30pm, 9:00am - 4:30pm, 10:00am - 5:30pm, or 10:30am - 6:00pm, contingent on program needs.
