About the role
The Assistant Teacher assists with student instruction and behavioral supports in the Minnick Schools, a system of private day schools for students with special needs. The position requires driving and a "clean driving record" is critical.
Responsibilities
- Aid in classroom management and academic instruction.
- Implement behavior intervention plans and strategies.
- Obtain and implement Safety Care strategies to de-escalate negative behaviors.
- Maintain student records and assigned documentation.
- Maintain confidentiality of student and school personnel information.
- Maintain professional boundaries in all interactions.
- Assist classroom teachers with student supervision and instruction.
- Attend staff meetings, parent meetings, and IEP meetings as requested.
- Communicate professionally and convey dignity and respect to students, parents, co-workers, and other professionals.
Requirements and Prerequisites
- High School diploma/GED with at least one year’s experience in special education, mental health, or other direct services.
- Basic computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office.
- Valid Virginia Drivers' License and proof of insurance if assigned driver.
- Satisfactory Driving Record.
Skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of special education and behavioral support strategies.

Pay and Schedule
- Monday-Friday – 8:00AM-4:00PM.
Driving Specific
- No reckless driving, DUI, manslaughter, or driving on a suspended or revoked license within the last 5 years.
- No passing a stopped school bus, careless driving, or three or more minor moving violations within the last three years within the last 3 years.
