Assistant Teacher

About This Role

This Assistant Teacher opportunity at Generations Crossing serves Infant / Toddler (0–2) and requires no formal credential — just relevant experience. Based in Rockingham, VA, candidates bring experience in early childhood education and development.

Responsibilities

• Treat each child with dignity and respect.
• Recognize and consider the individual needs of each child in relation to cultural and socio-economic background, disabilities, special talents and interests, style and pace of learning.
• Nurture and love the the children in the program.
• Help children learn to think creatively, to solve problems independently and to respect themselves and others.
• Supervise the classroom, according to the plans of the teacher, when the teacher is out of the room.
• Help with meals.
• Aid the teacher in other appropriate ways.
• Maintain professional attitudes, behavior and dress at all times while on duty. This includes using proper channels to air problems and complaints.
• Participate in professional organizations that work for the improvement of early childhood education.
• Maintain strict confidentiality regarding children and their families.
• Promote a good rapport among staff members.
• Share with the teacher the responsibility of maintaining a clean room.
• Attend outside workshops when appropriate.
• Be actively involved with the children.
• Communicate in a friendly and professional manner with parents, visitors, families and participants in the Adult Day Care Center.

Requirements

• Dependable, energetic and hard working individuals who must be at least 18 and have:
• a high school diploma or equivalent
• training or experience to meet the state requirements

Nice to Have

• CPR & First Aid Training
• Medication Administrative Training
