Responsibilities
- Aid the Lead Teacher in maintaining records on each child’s progress and development.
- Aid the Lead Teacher in implementing performance standards, policies, and procedures.
- Aid the Lead Teacher in planning and implementing the daily program of activities.
- Aid the Lead Teacher in reviewing the progress of each child and developing written plans for growth and development.
- Maintain a well-organized, safe, and attractive classroom environment.
- Develop a positive relationship with each child and promote self-esteem and self-discipline.
- Aid the teacher in the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and inclusion of children with disabilities and special needs.
- Aid the teacher in planning and implementing education field trips.
- Aid the teacher in conducting home visits and staff/parent conferences.
- Participate in staff meetings, center activities, and staff development.
- Assist the Education Director and teacher in implementing parent involvement activities.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent credentials.
- Completion of some college credits in Early Childhood Education preferred.
- CDA or 15 credits hours in Early Childhood Education preferred.
- Teacher Assistant Certification preferred.
- One year of prior teaching experience in Head Start and/or UPK program preferred.
- Bilingual English and Spanish language skills preferred.
- Strong oral and written communication, time management, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and other standard business technology.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to use a computer for prolonged periods.
- Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, or sit for long periods of time.
- Ability to climb five flights of stairs, if required to conduct home visits and/or fieldwork.
- Ability to bend and retrieve objects and/or documents.
- Ability to travel in the boroughs of New York City and its adjacent counties via public transportation.
- Ability to travel for a minimum of one mile within a reasonable amount of time and in all types of weather, including inclement weather, if required to conduct home visits and/or field work.
