About the role
To fill several openings, this is a 20-hour per week position.
Responsibilities
- Oversees and supervises assigned area activities;
- Makes sure activities are safe by enforcing rules and regulations;
- Checks identification when necessary;
- May open facilities for program assigned to the facility;
- Prepares the facility for use;
- Manages crowds;
- Controls disruptive fans;
- Completes and/or generates accident and incident reports and field reports when necessary;
- Provides assistance to other areas as needed or assigned;
- Receives and/or reviews various records and reports;
- Processes various records and reports;
- Refers to rule books for sports, rules from department, master lists, memorandums, rosters, schedules, telephone lists, City policies, maps, policy and procedure manuals, computer manuals, codes/laws/regulations, publications, and reference texts, etc.
- Operates a variety of equipment and machinery;
- Uses a variety of tools and supplies;
- Uses a variety of computer software;
- Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals;
- Coordinates leagues and uses of playgrounds;
- Provides assistance in selecting coaches;
- Maintains statistics and scores;
- Issues and collects uniforms and equipment;
- Performs inventory control;
- Checks the facility;
- Maintains assigned playgrounds and gyms by performing light cleaning and trash pick-up;
- Informs the public of upcoming events;
- Registers participants;
- Coordinates running of leagues such as setting up game clocks for games, coaching teams, keeping scores, and reporting progress to supervisor;
- Assists with organizing teams and completing rosters;
- Assists with coordinating practice times;
- Distributes and picks up equipment and uniforms;
- Checks for maintenance problems; submits work orders;
- Supervises and disciplines coaches and children when problems arise;
- Cleans spills in the gym;
- Dust mops the floor;
- Works at other playgrounds or gyms as needed;
- Administers first aid and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation when needed;
- Helps to work in the fields when needed.
Qualifications
- Requires a high school diploma or equivalent supplemented by twelve months of experience in recreation programming, recreation/sports participation, and/or sports coaching/officiating or other closely related work experience;
- Must possess a valid Louisiana’s Driver’s License.
Skills
- Knowledge of recreation programming, sports participation, and/or sports coaching/officiating;
- Ability to enforce rules and regulations;

Schedule
The regular schedule is 5:30pm – 9:30pm Monday through Friday. The schedule is subject to change and includes weekends.
