About the role
This is not a field leadership role for everyone. The Assistant Superintendent role at Subsurface is a shadowing and development position designed to prepare you to become a full Superintendent. You will work directly alongside an experienced Superintendent, observing, learning, and gradually taking on responsibility as your competence grows.
Responsibilities
- Aids the lead Superintendent with commercial projects.
- Coordinates and manages all on-site construction activities and subcontractors.
- Affords assistance on all scheduling with the project.
- Maintains oversight of construction for strict compliance with plans and specifications.
- Demonstrates and maintains effective and open dialogue with the project team regarding changes in work, job conditions, and subcontractor relations.
- Manages and tracks material and manpower to meet all deadlines.
- Ensures that all safety procedures and standards are followed within the guidelines of OSHA, federal, state, and local laws.
- Completes all required safety training and models safety practices.
- Learns Subsurface Construction Company processes and develops competencies to become a full Superintendent within the first year.
Requirements
- A High School Diploma required; 2 years of college preferred.
- Regularly required to use hands to handle objects, tools, or controls with proper PPE.
- Communicate verbally (both speaking and hearing) in potentially noisy environments.
- Must speak and understand English at a level appropriate to receive and comprehend specialized safety and training instructions in potentially noisy environments.
- Work in remote, difficult to access locations.
- Valid Driver's License without restriction, required.
- Must pass (with results acceptable to Subsurface) applicable background check.
- Must pass Worksteps Evaluation.
- Must have driving records within company standards.
- Ability to read and understand basic instructions, including safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
- Willing and able to perform physically strenuous work in all weather conditions.
Preferred
- OSHA 10 ETD First Aid / CPR
- Physical & Field Requirements
- Ability to walk and carry loads up to 100 pounds on uneven and sloping surfaces.
- Walk, stand, and climb 4 to 6 hours per day.
- Twist and or reach to complete daily activities.
- Regularly required to use hands to handle objects, tools, or controls with proper PPE.
- Communicate verbally (both speaking and hearing) in potentially noisy environments.
- Must speak and understand English at a level appropriate to receive and comprehend specialized safety and training instructions in potentially noisy environments.
- Work in remote, difficult to access locations.
- Full time travel.
- Must be able to work up to 12-hour days; 7 days per week, if necessary.
