Assistant Superintendent (Multi-Family)
Woods & Co is partnering with an established construction company to find an experienced Assistant Superintendent for their San Diego team. This role involves delivering high-quality multifamily developments alongside an experienced project team, with a focus on field operations. The ideal candidate has 8+ years of multifamily construction experience, particularly in concrete and framing.
About the Role
As Assistant Superintendent, you'll work closely with the Superintendent and project team to manage day-to-day field operations of multifamily projects. You'll coordinate subcontractors and trades, assist with scheduling, monitor quality and safety, and ensure construction progresses according to plan. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys solving problems and taking ownership of field execution.
Responsibilities
- Support the Superintendent with day-to-day field operations across multifamily projects
- Plan, coordinate, and sequence construction activities to maintain project momentum
- Coordinate and schedule subcontractors, vendors, and trades
- Oversee key construction scopes, particularly concrete and framing
- Monitor progress against the project schedule and identify potential delays or issues
- Review plans and specifications and identify constructability concerns
- Conduct regular site walks to monitor progress, quality, safety, and compliance
- Participate in subcontractor meetings, safety orientations, toolbox talks, and pre-installation meetings
- Assist with RFIs, submittals, inspections, and project documentation
- Work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, subcontractors, ownership, and design teams
- Troubleshoot field issues and develop practical solutions
- Hold subcontractors and trade partners accountable for quality, schedule, and safety
- Help ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to a high standard
Requirements
- 8+ years of construction experience
- Significant multifamily construction experience is essential
- Strong hands-on experience with concrete and framing
- Proven experience coordinating subcontractors, vendors, and multiple trades
- Strong understanding of construction sequencing and project schedules
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- A proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues
- The ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, field-based environment
