About the Role
The purpose of this position is to gain experience and provide support in the supervision of the activities and resources required to maintain the golf course to predetermined standards.
Education and Experience
- Currently enrolled or graduate of a Certificate, 2 or 4 year program in turf grass management related degree
- 1 year related experience through internships and/or co-ops
- Must have NC Pesticide License or ability to attain one within 6 months of hire
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Drive a company vehicle and/or company insured vehicle
- A valid driver’s license is required, along with successful completion of a pre-employment Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) and annual MVRs, according to company guidelines
- Follow safe, defensive driving practices at all times, obey all traffic laws, regulations, signals and markings, use a seat belt, and follow Company policies and procedures, including the Substance Abuse Policy
- Never drive while under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medications that may impair your ability to operate a vehicle safely, report any accidents immediately and cooperate fully with insurance claims investigations
- Assist in the application of sound turf management practices
- Gaining exposure in all facets of the operation, including but not limited to scheduling, calibration and application of plant protectants, cultural practices, irrigation and moisture management, renovation etc
- Provide a leadership role to all associates using accepted management techniques to improve and maintain high quality standards
- Perform other job duties as assigned with a positive attitude and desire to learn with an emphasis on attention to detail
- Work closely with Assistant Superintendent and Head Superintendent to carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws
- Train employees; plan, assign, and direct work; appraise performance; reward and discipline employees; address complaints and resolve problems
Physical Demands
- Regularly stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- Frequently sit, talk or hear, lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds
- Close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus, regular exposure to outside weather conditions, wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat, vibration, noise level in the work environment usually loud, must be aware of surroundings with an understanding of a golf environment, must have the ability to see and react to the surroundings including errant golf balls and must understand and follow proper golf etiquette while completing tasks
