Assistant Strength Coach

About the role

The Assistant Strength Coach supports the Adapted Athletics program, focusing on injury prevention, performance enhancement, and fostering an active lifestyle. The program offers inclusive and adaptive athletics and recreation activities across various skill levels.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the health and well-being of student athletes
  • Design individualized training programs
  • Supervise group strength and conditioning workouts
  • Supervise training practices in various locations
  • Teach proper lifting and conditioning techniques
  • Evaluate and test athlete progress
  • Manage equipment and budgets
  • Conduct inventory checks
  • Oversee Adapted Athletics program interns
  • Analyze athlete technique through film review sessions
  • Create and maintain a program calendar
  • Participate in community outreach and events

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field preferred
  • 1-2 years experience in collegiate strength and conditioning
  • Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS)
  • First Aid and CPR/AED certifications
  • Valid driver’s license and auto insurance
  • Completed trainings and certifications within 30 days of employment

Qualifications

  • Strong coaching background with emphasis on skill development
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities
  • Knowledge of Microsoft and Google Suite applications
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and Google Suite
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Schedule & Working Conditions

  • Part-time position with variable hours
  • Typical work schedule 5-10 hours per week, up to 25 hours weekly
  • May include evenings and weekends
  • May work indoors and outdoors, exposed to various elements

Physical Demands

  • Walking, bending, stooping, climbing, lifting up to 75 pounds
  • Standing and moving for extended periods

Relationships

  • Reports to Director of Adapted Athletics
  • Works closely with Head Strength Coach
  • Interacts with part-time Aztec Recreation staff, coaches, program assistants, interns, high performance partners, and Athletic Training staff
