Marist University Athletics seeks a full-time, 12-month Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach / Head Football Performance Coach. This role reports to the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach and supports 23 NCAA Division I teams in the Metro Conference.

About the role

The Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach / Head Football Performance Coach designs strength and conditioning programs for assigned varsity sports, monitors student-athlete performance, collaborates with head coaches on performance goals, and provides nutritional guidance. The position also oversees weight-room equipment, hires and manages interns, and performs other duties assigned by the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and guide daily training sessions with assigned athletic teams in the weight room.
  • Teach strength and conditioning philosophy and techniques to student-athletes.
  • Design and implement rehabilitation plans after assessing student-athlete injuries in coordination with Sports Medicine staff.
  • Lead Conditioning, Speed, Agility, and Quickness sessions on courts or playing fields.
  • Design comprehensive year-round training programs, including weight-room workouts, conditioning, speed, agility, and quickness.
  • Consult and communicate with sport coaches to discuss team physical needs and implementation strategies.
  • Meet one-on-one with student-athletes to set specific physical goals and develop individualized plans.
  • Update sport coaches regularly on team and individual physical progress.
  • Collaborate with Sports Medicine staff on return-to-training plans for injured student-athletes.
  • Report issues involving student-athletes, interns, or employees to the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach.
  • Maintain certifications through a nationally accredited strength and conditioning organization.
  • Complete Evidence-Based Practice Continuing Education Units (CEUs).
  • Attend conferences and symposia to stay current with training principles.
  • Maintain current CPR and AED certification (valid for two years).
  • Participate in Department of Athletics activities.
  • Maintain logs of broken or non-operational equipment and remove from general use.
  • Hire, manage, and evaluate interns, including tracking hours, completing performance reviews, and setting schedules.
  • Travel and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science or related field.
  • 1–3 years of relevant work experience.
  • NSCA CSCS, CSCCa, or SCCC certification.
  • Valid driver’s license with no serious convictions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Exercise Science or related field.

  • Tuition Benefits:
    • Up to 16 undergraduate credits per semester for employee, spouse, and dependent children under age 26 (100% tuition covered).
    • Up to 18 graduate credits per academic calendar (100% tuition covered).
    • Dependents may be reimbursed up to $2,000 per semester for tuition at another accredited institution.

Pay

$63,000 – $68,000 per year.

Schedule

  • Full-time, 12-month position.
  • 37.5 hours per week.
  • Monday–Friday, with evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays required.
