Assistant Store Manager - Soma

About the Role

The Assistant Store Manager supports the Store Manager in promoting a customer and product-focused sales culture, where values and guiding principles drive all store operations. This role manages sales operations, asset protection, and human resources to ensure an exceptional customer experience and maximum profitability.

Responsibilities

• Analyze sales reports and KPIs to determine business needs; execute in-store business and sales strategies in partnership with the Store Manager.
• Establish and communicate clear expectations, holding the store team accountable for brand, performance, and behavior standards.
• Control payroll and supply budgets.
• Oversee operational activities such as scheduling, shrink audits, physical inventory, opening/closing duties, time sheet review, payroll accuracy, and merchandise flow.
• Perform financial activities including cash handling, reporting, price changes, and merchandise handling while ensuring accuracy and policy compliance.
• Ensure compliance with laws, loss prevention policies, and operating procedures; conduct associate training to reinforce controls.
• Administer inventory processes, including receipt/dispatch, daily replenishment, and preparation for physical inventories.
• Maintain visual presentation, organization, and facility standards representative of the brand.
• Develop a high-performance culture, motivating the sales team to meet sales and productivity goals.
• Train and coach the team on product knowledge, locate fulfillment, and selling techniques.
• Motivate and inspire the store team, fostering an inclusive, collaborative approach to problem-solving.
• Communicate effectively with the team and Store Manager to drive positive change.
• Model and promote the Most Amazing Personal Service (MAPS) principles, ensuring a cohesive omnichannel customer experience.
• Utilize sales techniques and product knowledge to assist customers and recommend merchandise.
• Resolve customer concerns promptly and ensure a fast, efficient register experience.
• Maintain consistent client communication through customer books, rewards programs, and sign-ups.
• Assist in recruiting, hiring, and developing a high-performing team.
• Support and follow up on training programs, seminars, and performance coaching.
• Resolve human resources issues in partnership with the Store Manager.
• Drive associate engagement by recognizing and rewarding outstanding performance.
• Ensure adherence to all employment practices and policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned, which may vary by brand.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• 2+ years of retail management experience preferred.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Excellent communication (verbal and written) and customer service skills.
• Ability to learn or adapt to company-provided technology.
• Proven track record in sales and leadership.
• Strong organizational and multitasking skills in a fast-paced environment.
• Leadership qualities with training and team-building experience.
• Knowledge of store operations and administrative tasks.
• Ability to communicate effectively with customers and staff.
• Regular attendance to ensure adequate coverage.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Physical Requirements

• Constant walking/standing: 67-100% of an 8-hour shift.
• Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.: 1-33% of an 8-hour shift.
• Frequent climbing: 34-66% of an 8-hour shift.
