Assistant Store Manager (HELE Kapahulu | Full-Time)

Salary Range: $21.00 - $26.65 hourly plus $3.00 shift differential eligibility. Work Location: 707 Kapahulu Ave, Honolulu, HI 96816.

Responsibilities

• Safety
  • Maintain a safe work environment for employees and customers by prioritizing safety.
  • Ensure gas pumps, lot, and store areas are clean and free of debris at all times.
  • Work with the Safety Team to conduct monthly mandatory meetings and trainings.
  • Report safety incidents in a timely manner and comply with safety policy, programs, and processes.
• Leadership and Personnel Management
  • Train, develop, guide, and evaluate employees to operate the store effectively and safely while providing superior customer service.
  • Maintain a professional and supportive image among subordinates and supervisors.
  • Act as backup to Store Managers; prepare and submit all employee paperwork accurately and timely (e.g., performance appraisals, performance notices, new hire checklists).
  • Ensure all employees receive continuous on-the-job and company-required training to improve customer service performance and safety awareness.
  • Motivate, provide feedback, and share employee recognition to improve individual, team, and store performance.
  • Set and communicate performance expectations; evaluate actual performance as an extension of the Store Manager.
  • Develop potential employees through coaching and training for promotion readiness.
  • Carry out all company policies.
• Customer Service and Site Relationships
  • Provide prompt and courteous customer service; assist customers at the gas pump and resolve customer issues.
  • Accurately ring up all sales on the POS system, comply with cash handling procedures, and process other payment types.
  • Develop positive and professional relationships with customers, vendors, and contractors.
  • Responsible for all cash, monies, and inventory during shift.
  • Prioritize and assign tasks to ensure the store is clean, adequately stocked, and organized for fast, convenient, and professional service.
  • Ensure a friendly, welcoming, and well-maintained store environment to meet customer expectations.
  • Monitor customer needs and work with store employees to meet those needs through suggestive selling and promoting programs.
  • Assist customers at the pump and in-store to find desired products and operate equipment.
  • Actively solicit customer feedback via consistent personal interaction and engagement.
  • Resolve complaints quickly and sincerely to the satisfaction of customers, vendors, and contractors.
  • Promote and ensure a safe and positive public image within the community.
  • Promote and grow the Kama’aina Rewards program.
• Business and Management
  • Plan and manage store activities to maximize operating profit.
  • Monitor fuel sales volume and competitor pricing to assist in developing store-specific fuel pricing strategies.
  • Monitor merchandise and food movement, and competitor offerings to assist in developing store-specific product mix and pricing strategies.
  • Maintain store layout and product displays per schematics.
  • Execute store-level sales promotions and assist in implementing network-wide promotional and advertising campaigns.
  • Manage fuel, merchandise, and food inventory to ensure optimum stocking levels.
  • Control operating expenses (including maintenance, utilities, supplies, and inventory loss).
  • Prepare and submit daily sales reports accurately and timely, including invoices and bank deposits.
  • Safeguard and account for all money received and disbursed.
  • Organize and maintain all site files, manuals, and other informational materials.
  • Receive merchandise using proper check-in procedures when working with vendors.
  • Obtain and maintain all required food and age-restricted product certifications within 2 weeks of employment.
• Facilities Management
  • Assist in maintaining appearance standards of paving, lighting, canopy, and other physical structures.
  • Report facility issues in a timely manner.
  • Ensure facilities and equipment are in safe working order.
  • Maintain dispensing and store equipment to ensure clean, sanitary, and safe working conditions.
  • Ensure required signage/decals are posted.
• Personnel Assistance
  • Maintain a professional and supportive image among subordinates and supervisors.
  • Work with the Store Manager to create, maintain, and improve teamwork; provide training assistance to new associates.
  • Assist with staffing and schedule labor to meet customer demand while staying within budget.

Physical Demands

• Ability to stand and/or walk for an entire shift.
• Ability to see with 20/40 vision (corrective lenses acceptable) to monitor store inventory, items purchased, gas pumps, and potential pump issues.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English.
• Ability to follow safety procedures (e.g., respond to safety alarms, contact 911 for emergencies).
• Ability to frequently reach overhead, grip, utilize wrist movements, and demonstrate finger dexterity for tasks such as restocking inventory, packaging items, operating the POS system, receiving payments, issuing change, operating gas pumps, wiping pumps, maintaining store grounds, and general housekeeping.
• Ability to frequently squat and kneel to obtain and/or replenish items.
• Ability to push/pull with arms up to a force of 20 pounds (while utilizing a hand-truck).
• Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to climb a stepladder to stock or retrieve materials and/or place or remove signs.

Note: There may be exposure to gas fumes, solvents, and occasional noise.

Requirements

• At least 21 years of age or older.
• Legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring visa transfer or sponsorship.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Experience in retail sales and handling cash required.
• Ability to perform basic math accurately.
• Previous supervisory experience preferred.
