About the Role

Golf Galaxy is seeking a passionate, people-first store leader to oversee store operations in their area of the store. The Assistant Store Manager is responsible for driving the highest level of brand and operational excellence by ensuring our team delivers hassle-free and engaging customer service. They prioritize teammate coaching, development, and wellbeing while staying focused on financial metrics, store performance, and short/long-term planning.

Directly manages teammates assigned to the Operational Departments (e.g., Front End, Freight, and Operations) and has a dotted-line responsibility for managing associates in other areas of the store when serving as Head Coach. Holds teammates accountable for meeting established operational guidelines, brand standards, customer service expectations, and company policies.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the Operations Departments meet all operational standards, including Scan & Activate, SIM compliance, claims compliance, SFS/BOPIS fulfillment, speed of checkout, supply ordering, known theft log, stockroom organization, cash handling, and LP audits.
  • Ensure compliance with all company operational processes, including cash handling procedures, safety requirements, and Loss Prevention (LP) audits; may function as the store "Shrink Coach."
  • Monitor email to disseminate communication efficiently and ensure tasks are executed on time.
  • Execute back-office procedures, including managing applicant flow, processing pre-hire/new-hire paperwork, ensuring I-9 compliance, processing background checks, terminations, final paycheck requests, personnel changes, corrective actions, payroll/timekeeping changes, maintaining personnel files, attendance tracking, and state-required personnel paperwork.
  • Interview and make hiring recommendations for hourly teammates in the Operations department, using established interview guides to assess job fit.
  • Ensure teammates are onboarded and trained accordingly.
  • Handle teammate discipline, appraisals, and performance matters; make recommendations for terminations and advancements.
  • Drive the customer experience at the Front End by ensuring teammates engage every athlete, including training and development through motivational and effective coaching.
  • Manage payroll to meet budget, including scheduling teammates based on customer traffic and analyzing sales reports to adjust accordingly.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1-3 years of retail management experience.
