Assistant Store Manager - Famous Footwear

As a full-time Assistant Store Manager at Famous Footwear, you are passionate about providing the best shoe store experience for the whole family through customer engagement. You act in the role of the store leader in the absence of the Store Manager, developing your ability to motivate a team to achieve sales targets and growth goals. You support an in-store culture where customers are loyal to your store, our brands, and our company, and you help every person who enters your store experience a little bit of that Famous Feeling.

Responsibilities

• Inspire the Customer Connection: Foster a culture of caring and camaraderie focused on customer relationships, operational excellence, and flawless delivery. Coach team members on selling behaviors behind our Customer Connection.
• Champion Talent Discovery: Proactively seek out and network with exceptional external talent. Collaborate with the Store Manager to interview and hire individuals passionate about creating top-notch customer experiences.
• Ace Retail Operations & Support Staffing Levels: Ensure the store runs smoothly by mastering daily operations such as pricing, shipping, processing, and inventory. Support staffing levels considering Associate availability, peak days, and seasonal hiring needs.
• Leverage Insights to Deliver Results: Drive sales with purpose and determination to achieve goals. Apply insights and observations to continually improve results in partnership with the Store Manager.
• Be a Culture Builder: Support a work environment where diversity and inclusivity are valued. Maintain a positive and proactive mindset, leading by example to uplift and support others, increasing retention and improving Associate effort and performance.
• Be the Store Manager’s Right Hand: Step into the Store Manager’s role when needed, ensuring compliance with all company policies and programs through training, development, and consistent follow-up. Assess team strengths and opportunities to develop internal talent.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED.
• At least 1 year of sales experience (retail sales preferred).
• Experience in interviewing, hiring, and training people.
• Ability to lead, manage, motivate, and communicate positively with store Associates at all levels.
• Strong cognitive skills, including problem-solving, decision-making, and financial and quantitative analysis.
• Advanced working knowledge of general retail practices and procedures.
• Basic computer skills.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the business, including holidays, nights, weekends, and extended hours.

Skills

• Demonstrated ability to train, coach, and develop Associates to provide an engaging customer experience and execute operational tasks.
• Independent judgment and discretion in partnership with the Store Sales Manager.
• Experience as a team leader with a knack for identifying and nurturing talent.
• Mentoring and training associates on selling techniques and operational processes.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to regularly lift up to 40 lbs. from floor level to above shoulder height utilizing appropriate equipment and safety techniques.
• Ability to meet demands of frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, climbing, pushing, pulling, and repetitive lifting.
• Ability to be mobile on the sales floor for extended periods of time.
