About the role

The Assistant Store Manager supports the Store Manager in leading daily store operations, developing team members, and delivering exceptional customer experience. This role helps to drive sales performance, operational excellence, and service standards while ensuring the store is clean, safe, fully stocked, and customer-ready.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Manager on Duty when assigned
  • Open and close store according to procedures
  • Maintain store standards for cleanliness, organization, and readiness
  • Monitor in-stock levels and merchandising standards
  • Execute operational checklists and routines
  • Ensure policy and procedure compliance
  • Supervise and support team members across departments
  • Train and onboard new hires
  • Provide coaching, feedback, and performance support
  • Reinforce service and operational standards
  • Aid with scheduling and labor coverage
  • Assist with resolving customer concerns and escalations
  • Support service recovery and satisfaction efforts
  • Model Mother’s Market service standards
  • Partners with department leaders on ordering and replenishment
  • Drive sales and basket growth initiatives
  • Maintain food safety and sanitation standards
  • Enforce safe work practices
  • Support loss prevention and shrink control
  • Follow incident reporting procedures

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of retail or grocery leadership experience
  • Prior supervisory or key-holder experience preferred
  • Strong customer service background
  • Experience coaching or training employees
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Flexible availability including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • High school diploma or equivalent required (associate or bachelor’s preferred)

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Frequent bending, reaching, and stocking
  • Comfortable working in refrigerated and dry storage areas
  • Ability to move throughout all store departments daily
