Assistant Store Manager

About the Role

The Assistant Store Manager has responsibility for all store activities in the Store Manager’s absence. This role exemplifies the company’s culture through execution of the Mission and Values, demonstrates aggressive customer service, and effectively leads all store associates. The Assistant Store Manager oversees total store operations, including expertise in merchandising, shrink control, and operational aspects. Knowledge of the local market, customer base, seasonality, competitors, and other local factors is essential. This role requires leadership, problem-solving, and strategic thinking to achieve budgeted goals while instilling the company’s Mission and Values in all associates.

Responsibilities

• Exemplify and ensure the company’s Mission and Values remain forefront in daily operations and communicate store and company expectations to associates.
• Ensure aggressive customer service is demonstrated and defined for all associates to exceed customer expectations.
• Assist in achieving store budgeted goals through key associates or personal actions.
• Properly merchandise the retail sales floor according to company standards.
• Verify merchandise is received, stored, and merchandised in all departments following operational and safety procedures.
• Monitor delivery procedures to ensure timely and courteous processing of merchandise pickups.
• Ensure commercial sales associates aggressively pursue new customers while maintaining service for existing ones.
• Report unusual occurrences to the Store Manager and address immediate problems.
• Lead all associates in the absence of the Store Manager, providing consistent direction and feedback.
• Assist with recruiting, selecting, and training associates to foster a team environment.
• Be certified in all store areas, including forklifts (inside and outside), DOT, gate, receiving, and service desk operations.
• Complete HCI product knowledge courses and master opening/closing procedures and customer service skills (e.g., banding lumber, cutting keys, mixing paint, keying locks, cutting flooring).
• Perform other functions as assigned by a supervisor or company official.

Requirements

• Strong oral and written communication skills for interacting with customers, vendors, and associates.
• Understanding of aggressive customer service and team orientation.
• Strong management and organizational skills.
• Ability to interpret data in statistical or numerical form for merchandise and operational coordination.
• Detail-oriented with the ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Physical ability to climb ladders, reach, bend, twist, kneel, lift up to 50 lbs., handle large or odd-shaped items, and stock overhead areas.
• Flexibility to work weekends, evenings, and holidays.

Pay

$18.00 per hour.
