Job Summary
The Assistant Store Manager supports the Store Manager in achieving sales, credit, miscellaneous revenue, expense management, and planned cost recovery goals. They ensure corporate programs and policies are executed to maximize store cost recovery through superior customer service and asset productivity. They maintain high presentation standards and serve as a role model for business practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the store to achieve business goals in revenue, expense reduction, cost recovery, customer satisfaction, inventory shrinkage, and Associate morale
- Manage HR transactional processes in staffing and training; assist in action plans to improve overall individual and store performance
- Select, coach, and develop strong and effective management and Supervisor/Lead Associates; develop a diverse, high-performance team; set and manage high standards, including taking decisive action with underperformers; and focus on positioning high performers for growth opportunities within the store
- Supervise associates providing consultative selling and service for customers, including training, coaching, and performance evaluations, using the American Freight Professional Selling Process and Observation Tools
- Act as the Sales Manager on Duty (MOD) when needed
- Manage the customer experience within the store
- Maximize Furniture Protection Plans (FPP), Financing (AFF), and other Miscellaneous Income opportunities within the store
- Monitor, coach, and react to missed profit/revenue opportunities for the store
- Take ownership for full implementation of corporate programs and initiatives on merchandising, cost management, productivity, and Associate morale
- Ensure consistency of merchandising execution and operational processes within the store
- Communicate ideas or activities leading to cost recovery improvements to Territory leaders and Store Operations staff
- Ensure the store operates in full compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and Company Code of Conduct and ethics policies
- Provide a safe working environment for both Associates and Customers
Qualifications
- Proven leadership skills and ability to motivate and develop teams
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Experience in retail operations, preferably in furniture or home goods
- Knowledge of financial management and cost recovery principles
- Understanding of customer service best practices
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities

Pay
$45,000 to $62,000 per year, commensurate with experience
