Responsibilities

  • Affirm store manager & associates in achieving a positive customer shopping experience & fostering an interest in customer service/relations to maintain Kroger’s top-tier reputation.
  • Support store manager in planning, implementing, and executing merchandising and operating initiatives.
  • Collaborate with department heads and store associates to identify store opportunities, develop timely solutions, and create action plans to ensure plan implementation.
  • Manage store operations in the absence of the store manager, achieving/exceeding weekly, period, and annual sales, wage, and profit budgets, as well as other targeted goals (e.g., safety, shrink).
  • Drive sales by working with department managers to optimize sales and profits, minimize shrinkage, and improve each store department’s contribution.
  • Participate in regular store-level financial performance discussions with associates regarding budget development (e.g., sales, shrink, labor expenses, other expenses) and other targeted goals (e.g., safety).
  • Analyze and respond to competitive market dynamics within the district/division.
  • Demonstrate inclusive leadership; expect inclusive behavior from associates.
  • Coordinate with coordinators/other field staff to ensure store departments achieve sales/profit goals and implement division merchandising plans.
  • Promote/support strong relationships with local community organizations in the store’s surrounding area.
  • Assist in building productive relationships with union representatives/business agents if the store is covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
  • Communicate necessary information to associates to enable them to effectively carry out their duties.
  • Serve as a liaison between store/district managers & coordinators on the effectiveness of division merchandising/operational plans/programs.
  • Assist store manager in staffing, reducing turnover, and increasing retention.
  • Provide timely individual/department performance feedback to department heads & associates.
  • Manage labor management & supply costs on a daily basis to meet customer service/financial targets.
  • Ensure store compliance & associate knowledge of federal, state, & local laws/enterprise policies.
  • Supervise and coach direct reports on the performance of their duties; complete performance reviews and provide feedback to direct reports.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED
  • One year of experience as department manager, service manager, or equivalent experience
  • Store manager/district manager or direct manager approval
  • Desired: Retail management experience & knowledge of all aspects of store operations, staff supervisory experience
