About the role
The Assistant Coach position at Lake Havasu High School supports the athletic program under the direction of the Head Coach, Athletic Director, and Principal. The role does not involve direct supervision and is classified as part-time with no benefits.
Responsibilities
- Carry out the aims and objectives of the sports program as outlined by the head coach and school administration.
- Instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for individual and team success.
- Ensure discipline and work to increase morale and cooperation within the school sports program and school community.
- Maintain understanding of school district, state, and conference regulations and enforce them.
- Monitor student athlete's academic progress through reports provided by the Athletic Office.
- Complete and submit necessary injury reports to the Athletic Office.
- Accountable for all equipment management including inventorying, issuing, storing, and reconditioning.
- Supervise locker rooms and other team areas, ensuring cleanliness and facility maintenance.
- Be present until the last student athlete leaves.
- Attend and adhere to scheduled sports events and practices.
- Aid in the preparation and cleanup of playing areas.
- Safeguard participants during practices and games.
- Assist the head coach in fulfilling their responsibilities.
- Participate in skill improvement through attendance at clinics and resource utilization.
- Prepare and submit reports and information required by the Athletic Office.
- Always have a player's emergency card available during practices and games.
- Assume supervisory control over athletes and teams as needed.
Requirements
- Previous successful coaching or playing experience or knowledge in the assigned sport.
- Knowledge of the background and specific safety concerns of the assigned sport.
- Ability to work effectively with other coaches, staff, and students.
- Completion of the NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching course or approved equivalent within 45 days of hire.
- Completion of the NFHS online course "Concussion in Sports What You Need to Know" within 45 days of hire.
- Arizona Teaching Certificate, Arizona Coaching Certificate, or completion of Level I Certification from the National Federation of State High School Associations within 45 days of hire.
