Assistant Snowsports Director
About the role
Tyrol Basin is looking for a hardworking, snow-loving person who enjoys working with all ages to join our team this upcoming winter season as our Assistant Snow Sports Director. This person is responsible for assisting the Snow Sports Director in the planning, organization, and overseeing of operations, activities, and staff within the Snow School. The ideal candidate will have some management, coaching, or leadership experience and the ability to either ski or snowboard (though this is not required, as we can teach you). This position requires good organization, time-management, and the ability to work in fast-paced, sometimes high-stress situations while maintaining excellent customer service and upholding Tyrol Basin’s values and policies.
This position is primarily performed in an indoor office setting but does sometimes require work outdoors in the elements. The Assistant Snow Sports Director will work closely with, and share an office with, the Snow School Director, who handles most of the on-snow duties.
Responsibilities
- Help with the training, scheduling, and management of all staff within the Snow School, including Ski & Snowboard Instructors and Desk Staff
- Perform daily lesson check-in while providing excellent customer service to lesson clients, welcoming them into the world of skiing and snowboarding
- Assist clients with the lesson check-in process: payment, filling out rental forms, putting on ski/snowboard equipment, and finding their instructor meeting location
- Oversee daily Ski & Snowboard Instructor schedule as well as client schedule
- Answer phones and emails; check and respond to Snow School voicemail and email
- Answer lesson questions and offer lesson advice
- Occasionally help clients through the online lesson-booking process
- Work with and assist the Snow Sports Director in the planning of special events and lesson programs
- Help the Snow Sports Director in the daily assigning/pairing of lesson clients to instructor classes
- Occasionally work as a Ski & Snowboard Instructor (if possessing that ability)
- Occasionally work as a Ticket Seller and help with ticket/rental sales as needed
Requirements
- Knowledge of computerized point of sale and online platforms
- Skilled in both verbal and written communication
- Ability to work autonomously and organize the work of self and staff
- Pleasant and welcoming demeanor
- Knowledge of supervisory practices and principles
- Confidence and ability to lead a diverse staff
- Reliable and trustworthy
- Excellent time-management and organizational skills
- The ability to get along well with others in a shared office space
- The ability to work well with children of all ages (toddler, elementary, and high school aged)
Qualifications
- Ability to ski or snowboard (preferred, but not required)
- Proficient in basic computer operations (email, applications, word processing)
Schedule
This position runs from mid-November through the end of the winter season (usually end of March to early April). Ski School hours of operation vary based on weather, time-of-year, special events, and lesson programs but are typically 11am–7pm Monday–Friday and 9am–5pm Saturday and Sunday. This is a part-time seasonal position with applicants expected to work between 25–40 hours per week.
