Assistant Site Manager

Responsibilities
- Function as the overall Site Manager during off-rotation for the Site Manager.
- Assist in developing scopes of work for review and approval.
- Assist in the development and management of project schedule.
- Prepare estimates in areas of self-performed work and assist in complete project estimate.
- For smaller projects (under $5 million), may function as the Site Manager.
- Oversee multiple divisions of work, including all aspects of the means and method of construction.
- Solicit prices from subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers for review and approval.
- Assist in selection of qualified bidders, negotiate final prices, draft subcontracts and purchase orders.
- Assist in the preparation of various reports (e.g., cost-to-complete, monthly billings, status reports, progress tracking).
- Review all drawings (shop, architectural, structural, etc.) when issued to the field and maintain a current set.
- Plan construction procedures based on specifications, starting and completion times, and staffing requirements.
- Implement procedures and assist in identifying staffing needs.
- Assist in locating, evaluating, and selecting potential subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers related to the General Conditions budget.
- Assist in pricing work, drafting changes and change orders, and ensuring customer satisfaction.
- Coordinate and manage on-site construction activities from pre-start-up to completion.
- Schedule work, including subcontractors, and determine materials, equipment, and tools needed.
- Secure appropriate supply sources and set up/close out the construction site.
- Establish and maintain high safety and quality standards in accordance with company and industry standards.
- Serve as on-site safety representative when none is assigned; stop work, discipline team members, and remove unsafe individuals/subcontractors from the site in the absence of the Site Manager.
- Make immediate decisions regarding safety and quality improvements without further approval.
- Resolve issues on behalf of management while considering the financial impact of decisions related to potential out-of-scope items.
- Procure tools and materials to be delivered at specified times to conform to work schedules.
- Confer with and direct supervisory personnel and subcontractors to plan and execute work procedures, interpret specifications, and coordinate construction phases to prevent delays.
- Resolve complaints and grievances within the workforce.
- Prepare or review reports on progress, materials used, costs, and adjust work schedules as needed.
- Provide expert advice related to specific divisions of work.
- Meet with customers and refer all requested changes to the Site Manager and Project Manager for proper disposition.
- Work with city officials, OSHA, and inspectors throughout the project duration.
- Ensure required inspections are conducted per project specifications and maintain proper documentation.
- Communicate, implement, and enforce Gray’s safety program on site.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school and a minimum of three years of construction experience or a minimum of five years of related construction experience with increasing responsibility in lieu of a degree.
- Experience within the light/heavy industrial sector highly desired, specifically within the food and beverage market.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings, financial reports, and legal/contract documents.
- Strong people management skills.
- Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), tablets, and smartphones.
- Experience with MS Project and other scheduling software is a plus.
- Strong work ethic, self-motivation, and ability to work in a team environment with a passion for collaboration and professional development.
- Ability to work independently and manage tasks without direct supervision.
- Willingness to travel, as projects are located throughout the U.S. and occasionally outside the country. The selected candidate can live anywhere in the USA but must travel to project sites per Gray’s travel policy.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
- Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands and arms, reach, talk, or hear.
- Regularly required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
- Must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 lbs and occasionally lift or move up to 100 lbs.
- Specific vision abilities include accurate near and distant vision.
- Frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and outside weather conditions.
- Occasionally exposed to high precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, extreme cold and/or heat, risk of electrical shock, explosives, and vibration.
- Noise level is generally moderate to loud.
- Overtime may be required.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Manage multiple subordinate team members, including training, planning, assigning, and directing work.
- Reward and discipline team members, address complaints, and resolve problems.
- Indirectly manage subcontractors, consultants, and general laborers.
Pay
The wage range for this role is $100,000 to $130,000, taking into account factors such as skill sets, experience, training, certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range, and compensation decisions depend on the facts and circumstances of each case.
