Under general supervision, this role provides direct employee supervision for assigned units and paramedic quick response when necessary. Responsibilities include routine administrative duties, scheduling, FTO and QA follow-up, inspections, and emergency medical patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct employee supervision over assigned units to ensure compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, laws, regulations, and safety standards.
  • Performs supervisory duties including instructing, assigning, reviewing, and planning work; maintaining standards; coordinating activities; allocating personnel; addressing employee problems; and recommending disciplinary action.
  • Ensures stations and vehicles are in proper working order.
  • Obtains and evaluates paperwork and reports from stations, including timesheets and EPCR documentation.
  • Gathers and delivers necessary supplies and materials to stations as required.
  • Monitors daily unit inspections and controlled drug exchanges.
  • Coordinates with the county maintenance shop for vehicle repairs.
  • Provides customer service support for inquiries, concerns, and complaints.
  • Performs emergency care duties, including medical care, extrications, and transportation of the sick and injured during emergency runs.
  • Backfills slots during shift shortages or emergency situations.
  • Acts as Shift Supervisor in their absence.
  • May serve as EMS incident commander during large-scale incidents until relieved.
  • Prepares and reviews reports and documents, including maintenance records, training reports, inspection forms, run reports, inventory records, incident/accident reports, schedules, rosters, personnel records, and performance appraisals.
  • Operates computers, radios, telephones, calculators, copiers, and other office equipment.
  • Uses medical supplies, protective clothing, hand and power tools, and other necessary equipment.
  • Interacts with county officials, other government agencies, EMS personnel, community organizations, medical personnel, patients, and the general public.
  • Utilizes EMS scheduling software to cover shifts and online incident management systems to report mechanical issues or station problems.
  • Staffs transport units during shortages, call-outs, or high-volume periods.
  • Performs additional duties as requested by the Director, Operations Manager, or County Administration.

Requirements

  • Vocational or technical school Paramedic Certification.
  • 8 years of EMS experience, with a minimum of 5 years at the Paramedic Certification Level, including at least 1.5 years at Lancaster EMS.
  • Required certifications: ACLS, PALS, PHTLS/AMLS, BLS, EVOC/CEVO, Incident Command (700, 800, 100, 200).
  • Must complete SC EMS Management course within one year of selection or as soon as offered.
  • Valid state driver’s license.
  • Must not be in a Probationary Period.
