Assistant Resident Engineer
About the Role
Be part of a dynamic, national professional construction management organization, fostering careers while expanding our client base throughout the New York area. This role involves managing inspection and office staff, record keeping, correspondence, and compiling and delivering required reports. You will collaborate with clients, contractors, subcontractors, designers, and support staff.
Responsibilities
- Chair various project meetings, record and distribute meeting minutes.
- Monitor contractor performance, scheduling, effectiveness, and quality control.
- Review and approve daily inspection reports and payment quantities in accordance with regional agency requirements.
- Prepare Change Orders for overruns, changed conditions, and additional work.
- Log and coordinate with the designer to respond to contractors’ submittals, RFIs, and shop drawings.
- Oversee site safety, quality, permit compliance, and coordination with other adjacent projects.
- Work with clients to inform the public about upcoming work and potential impacts.
- Work with the Contractor to minimize disruptions to the public.
- Collaborate with other engineers, professionals, and infrastructure authorities on Federal, State, regional, local, and privately funded improvement and development projects.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Requirements
- BS in Engineering or equivalent.
- 7-10 years’ experience in transportation infrastructure-related construction projects (rail, highway, bridge, aviation, and ports).
- Experience in successful delivery of NYC regional projects for transportation infrastructure agencies such as The Port Authority of NY/NJ, MTA, NYSDOT, NYSTA, and others.
- Ability to supervise inspection staff.
- Ability to review/approve shop drawings, contractor schedules, permit, and inspection requirements.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Working knowledge of Site Manager.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- PE/RA or CCM certification is a plus.
- Rail experience is a plus.
- ACI Certification is a plus.
- OSHA 10 Hour Certification.

Pay
Expected salary range: $83,100 - $169,500.
