Assistant Resident Engineer

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Resident Engineer (RE) and Construction Manager (CM) in the day-to-day oversight of construction activities on a major NYCDEP project.
  • Assist in managing inspection staff and ensuring timely and accurate daily reporting in accordance with client requirements.
  • Serve as a liaison between contractors, design teams, and client stakeholders.
  • Review and respond to RFIs, submittals, and shop drawings.
  • Maintain project documentation including correspondence, reports, and contract records.
  • Affiliate in reviewing construction plans, specifications, and change orders for constructability and compliance.
  • Support the preparation and facilitation of project meetings including progress, safety, and coordination meetings.
  • Monitor contractor performance related to safety, schedule, quality, and overall responsiveness.
  • Affiliate in reviewing and processing contractor payment applications in coordination with project controls.
  • Affiliate in supporting project closeout activities and ensure all documentation is complete and compliant.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical or Environmental Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in construction management, with prior experience as an Assistant Resident Engineer or Senior Inspector on municipal infrastructure projects.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required; PE license preferred or ability to obtain.
  • Experience with NYCDEP, NYCDDC, or similar agencies strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of construction documentation, contract administration, and field coordination.
  • Strong geotechnical background and experience.
  • Strong concrete placement background and experience.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in New York.
  • Experience supporting NYCDEP and/or NYCDDC construction projects.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with clients, contractors, and other team members.
  • Interest in supporting business development and proposal efforts.
