Responsibilities
- Aid the Resident Engineer in managing and coordinating daily construction inspection activities.
- Supervise field inspection personnel and coordinate inspection coverage for contractor operations.
- Maintain oversight of contractor operations and construction progress to ensure compliance with VDOT plans, specifications, and contract requirements.
- Review and approve Daily Work Reports (DWRs) and quantity documentation prepared by inspection staff.
- Assist in preparing and reviewing progress payment estimates, change orders, and contract modifications in VDOT SiteManager.
- Assist in reviewing contractor submittals, shop drawings, and Request for Information (RFIs).
- Coordinate construction staging and maintenance of traffic operations in accordance with the VDOT Work Area Protection Manual (WAPM).
- Monitor compliance with environmental permits, erosion and sediment control plans, and safety regulations.
- Resolve field issues and coordinate with VDOT personnel and contractors as directed.
- Act on behalf of the Resident Engineer when necessary.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Minimum 8–12 years of transportation construction experience.
- Experience working on VDOT or comparable DOT transportation construction projects.
