About the Role

AIG is seeking an Assistant Regional Underwriting Manager to contribute to their industry-leading Professional and Cyber Liability team. This role focuses on underwriting and servicing an existing renewal book while soliciting new business opportunities, with constant interaction with top nationwide brokers and insureds, including Fortune 500 companies. The position supports the development and execution of portfolio strategies within the Midwest territory and involves managing a team of underwriters. The role may also include underwriting a book of business directly.

The Assistant Regional Underwriting Manager will be based in Chicago, reporting to the Regional Underwriting Manager, and will oversee the performance of a portfolio of accounts while ensuring adherence to underwriting guidelines. This position has direct accountability for business results, including profitability, penetration, and volume within a specific segment or geographic area.

Responsibilities

  • Exercise judgment, negotiate, and make sound business decisions based on increased authority.
  • Drive consistent underwriting best practices to ensure rating, pricing, and structural adequacy.
  • Assign and manage the work of a team of underwriters, assisting in executing strategic initiatives and addressing their concerns.
  • Collaborate with Distribution, Business & Product Leaders, and other lines of business underwriters to target desirable accounts and cross-selling opportunities.
  • Monitor adherence to underwriting requirements and guidelines for the assigned book of business.
  • Stay abreast of developments in competitive and risk landscapes to assess their impact on renewal accounts and new business opportunities.
  • Develop strong, long-term relationships with brokers and clients to profitably grow a book of business.
  • Identify and manage special underwriting projects as needed.
  • Provide superior customer service to brokers and clients.
  • Work collaboratively with Financial Lines Product Heads, Regional Executives, the Chief Underwriting Office, and departments such as Actuarial, Legal, and Claims.
  • Foster a culture that promotes collaboration, innovation, diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Requirements

  • Minimum 7+ years of Commercial Underwriting or Brokerage experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university.
  • Advanced knowledge of the US Cyber/E&O businesses, including product features, forms, regulatory environment, and risks.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong professional relationships.
  • Very strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, rapidly changing environment, adapting to evolving requirements and collaborating across teams.
  • Proficiency with underwriting analytical tools and technology.
  • External thought leadership.
  • Understanding of effectiveness and productivity within a matrixed structure.

Pay

The base salary range for this position is $135,000–$175,000, and the position is eligible for a bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable incentive plan.

Schedule

This role primarily requires in-person collaboration at the office as part of AIG’s culture, though hybrid arrangements may apply where the manager also underwrites a book of business.
