Assistant Rail Structures Engineer - Relocate to Omaha

The Rail Structures Engineer position at Olsson offers an entry-level role that supports the development of purposeful, high-quality design solutions addressing real-world engineering challenges in the railroad sector. This role provides hands-on experience in project design, plan production, and supporting senior staff.

Responsibilities

• Assist with project design elements using standard techniques and established methods.
• Perform entry-level plan production with clearly defined instructions.
• Gain experience working within design and modeling software.
• Support senior staff with project schedules and technical engineering calculations.
• Contribute to limited portions of broader projects under direct supervision.
• Gather and prepare research for technical reports.
• Provide mentoring to student interns by answering questions and guiding routine assignments.
• Travel and work in various terrain and weather conditions at project sites in different construction stages.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering
• Must possess or obtain Engineer Intern certificate (EI)
• Experience in MicroStation, Risa 3D analysis, and Bluebeam Revu preferred
• Strong communication skills
• Strong problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail
• Ability to contribute and work well on a team
