About the role
You will serve as a HIGH VOLTAGE ELECTRICIAN LEADER in the PUBLIC WORKS DIVISION of NAVFAC SOUTHWEST. This position is being recruited for the Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) and may subsequently be realigned under the Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC).
Responsibilities
- Lead crews in troubleshooting cable systems to locate shorts, electrolysis damage, capacitance imbalance or cable breaks.
- Lead a team as a High Voltage Electrician completing high voltage electrical inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities.
- Use tools (climbing gear, belt and harness to operate, test and repair high voltage overhead lines, cross arms, transformers, switches and structures).
- Maintain proper work methods, explain steps and or processes to ensure the safety of crew members and safe operations of the equipment.
Qualifications
- Ability to lead or supervise:
- Repairing high voltage power generating and distributing equipment (e.g. generators, transformers, switches, circuit breakers, recording instruments, and control systems);
- Reading circuit drawings and diagrams to identify electrical problems;
- Using high voltage test tools (e.g. oscillators, primary and secondary injection tester, Power Factor and Relay calibration equipment, meggers, phase sticks, and fault finding equipment);
- Installing transformers, capacitors, insulators, switches, circuit breakers and fuses for main distribution lines over 600V;
- Using safety equipment such as hot sticks, rubber blankets, and insulated gloves when working on high voltage systems.
