Assistant Project Manager - Energy
About the role
The Assistant Project Manager (APM) at Cupertino Electric, Inc. (CEI) plays a crucial role in coordinating between the field team, project team, and customers. Key responsibilities include maintaining exceptional working partnerships with vendors and subcontractors, assisting in the review and tracking of project activities, facilitating learning, preparing/driving/documenting team meetings, directing the work of Project Engineers and Project Coordinators, leading team meetings, and coordinating commissioning activities with third parties.
Responsibilities
- Maintain exceptional working partnerships with vendors and subcontractors
- Coordinate accurate material releases on time and consistent with project documents
- Track and follow up on open items
- Manage close out documents
- Price change orders consistently and in a timely manner for project manager review and approval
- Identify cost impacts associated with RFIs, submittals, and design changes and provide timely notification
- Coordinate commissioning activities with third party
- Track and manage material releases, changes, and coordinate delivery with construction schedule
Requirements
The ideal candidate should bring innovative and entrepreneurial thinking to a project, with prior experience supervising and/or providing guidance to others. Technical knowledge and communication skills are essential, along with experience providing in-house support to Project Managers such as coordinating, tracking quantities complete for billing, and managing project activities and documentation. A willingness to learn and a proactive approach to improving existing processes are also valued.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Business, Engineering, or similar preferred.
- Experience: Three (3) or more years of experience specifically as a Project Engineer in electrical construction, or MEP experience in general contracting. Minimum five (5)+ years of related experience, including some time managing smaller projects.
- Licensure/Certifications: None required.
- Driving Record: Valid state-issued driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
Skills
Strong communication skills, ability to manage multiple tasks, and proficiency in project management software are essential. The ability to work independently and as part of a team is also crucial.

Pay
The starting pay range for this position is $81,000 to $106,000, with final determination of a successful candidate’s starting pay varying based on a number of factors, including market location and job-related knowledge, skills, education, and experience.
Schedule
The position primarily involves working on-site at the project location or in the office. Travel frequency and duration will vary depending on the role and project timeline.
