About the role
This position serves as Assistant Project Manager for multiple non-capital construction projects. It involves overseeing the development, design, and construction phases of small or simple projects, and assisting Project Managers in these phases.
Responsibilities
- Aid Project Managers in managing non-capital projects from initiation through close-out.
- Develop scopes of work based on client requests or building issues.
- Create early schedules for all assigned projects using Microsoft Project, based on given scopes and required delivery dates.
- Facilitate and monitor the permit approval process, ensuring timely acquisition of required permits and adherence to project schedules.
- Manage the bid and contract phases, and evaluate bid results.
- Direct the construction phase by regularly monitoring projects.
- Support Project Managers in managing project documents, including requests for information, submittals, pay applications, compliance with codes and regulatory matters, change directives, or change orders.
- Aid Project Managers in project close-out, including punch list completion, commissioning, training, as-built drawings, and O&M Manual reviews.
- Ensure project safety and quality assurance.
- Maintain knowledge of College and VCCS policies and adhere to State and local procurement regulations.
- Apply professional and technical skills to guide design professionals through the planning process.
Requirements
- General computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, Word, Power Point).
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently with a high level of responsibility and accountability.
- Strong time management skills.
- Ability to work productively and communicate appropriately with a wide variety of personnel and contractors.
- Willingness to learn the project development process, Microsoft Project, current codes, and environmental regulations.
- Understanding of construction and related engineering aspects.
- Understanding of basic Project Management principles.
Qualifications
- Experience in working on projects.
- Experience in assisting Project Managers across multiple project phases.
- Unrestricted Valid Driver’s License in good standing.
