About the Role

An integral team member who collaborates on the management and execution of heavy civil or bridge projects safely and profitably.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with management to develop and adjust project plans, staffing, equipment, and timelines.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve execution strategies throughout the project.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of contract documents and payment terms.
  • Review and approve invoices, subcontractor payments, and cost reports, identifying variances and potential claims.
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of all project records, including daily reports, logs, photos, and meeting minutes.
  • Manage the project budget, monitor cost performance, optimize work methods, and ensure proper documentation and submission of change orders and claims.
  • Mentor project engineers and interns, and enforce company policies across the team.
  • Negotiate, coordinate, and oversee subcontractors and vendors, ensuring timely payments and resolution of disputes or changes.
  • Represent the company professionally in all interactions, maintaining strong relationships and handling negotiations with integrity.
  • Enforce company and OSHA safety standards, ensuring a safe work environment across all project activities.
  • Foster and maintain a safe work environment.
  • Assist with the leadership and development of team members.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Science and Management.
  • 5+ years of heavy highway experience; 2+ years of progressive project management experience preferred.
  • Field-based project execution experience.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Safety Trained Supervisor Construction Certification.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a valid and appropriate state driver’s license prior to employment.
  • Self-starter who works well independently.
  • Ability to work well under pressure with a sense of urgency and thoroughness.
  • Must be able to navigate rugged terrain, climb substantial heights, and work over and on water.
  • Good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limbed coordination.
  • Excellent stamina.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Viewpoint experience.
  • Knowledge of the estimating process.

Work Environment

  • Pressurized environment with long hours and occasional weekend work.
  • Work on heavy civil and highway construction sites with loud noise levels.
  • Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts, outside conditions (inclement weather, heat, humidity), dust, and asphalt.
  • Regional travel within the assigned Division may be required.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position includes direct supervisory responsibilities and requires managing direct reports.
