Assistant Project Manager
The Role
The Assistant Project Manager (APM) owns and facilitates tasks as outlined by the Project Manager (PM) or Sr. Project Manager (Sr. PM) within the projects assigned. The APM I is working to gain proficiency in the construction process and familiarity with working on commercial construction sites.
Roles & Responsibilities - General
- Coordinates with and supports the field, client, subcontractors, and vendors.
- Maintains current plan set on ACC Build or in Project Folder.
- Creates base procurement and submittal logs from equipment matrices and Specifications.
- Gathers and packages submittals.
- Issues submittals and logs.
- Saves and logs RFIs.
- Processes purchase orders.
- Tracks and updates procurement log.
- Issues submittal, RFI, and procurement logs.
- Coincides with Site Safety to understand safety audit results and develop an awareness of safety on the jobsite.
- Gains exposure to the BIM and detailing process.
- Understands construction schedules and how they were developed.
- Writes subcontracts.
- Tracks and collects startup, installation verification, and pre-commissioning forms as required per project.
- Creates Requests for Information (RFIs) as necessary, including relevant sketches. Marks up RFIs on contract documents, including plans and submittals.
- Develops submittal packages and checks for accuracy compared to drawings and building standards.
- Drafts equipment POs and checks for accuracy compared to drawings, submittals, quotes, and building standards.
- Assesses drawing updates and determines if there are scope impacts.
- Updates project budgets through budget revisions and updates change order logs.
- Gains exposure to the basics of estimating:
- Quantity/Material takeoffs of engineered drawings.
- Conceptual estimating from architectural drawings or no drawings at all.
- Calculating and drafting change orders as required.
- Gains exposure in how to complete and present monthly financial reports (ECAC/stats).
- Walks assigned projects regularly.
Salary Range
The salary range for this position is $65,000 to $85,000. (The compensation offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills and experience).
Accountabilities & KPIs
- Establishes and ensures that a document control system is in place and updated on a regular basis throughout all projects.
- Establishes relationships with Foremen, Project Managers and Project Coordinators.
Capabilities & Experience
- Technical skills in programs such as ACC Build, MS Office, Bluebeam Revu, D365 or similar.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Efficient time management skills.
- Works with a sense of urgency.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Business, or Engineering is preferred, or equivalent education and experience. We will consider a combination of direct trade experience and education that would indicate proficiency in performing APM I duties.
