About the Role
The Assistant Project Manager serves as a representative of Dugan & Meyers LLC on each project and assists the Project Manager in all phases of the project’s operation and completion. They provide leadership and perform in a professional and effective manner.
Responsibilities
- Maintains effective communications with the client, architect, engineers, and contractors.
- Assists in cost control and reporting procedures in conjunction with the Project Manager, Estimating, and Accounting Departments.
- Assists with monitoring the delivery of the project safety program using current company guidelines. Coordinates with the Project Manager, Superintendent, Corporate Safety Director, and/or the Regional Safety Manager to address safety issues promptly.
- Regularly reviews the project for safety-related issues and ensures they are immediately addressed with the Project Team. Periodically participates in Tool Box talks and other jobsite safety meetings.
- Provides support to the Project Team to ensure an initial schedule is issued and corporate scheduling policies are followed. Assists in the active management and updating of the schedule, including the critical path and milestones.
- Maintains project controls and documentation (daily, weekly, and monthly reports, RFIs, field orders, minutes, and correspondence) throughout the project lifecycle.
- Assists with pre-award conference checklists, exhibits, and draft subcontracts and purchase orders. Ensures all proposed subcontractors are pre-qualified.
- Works with the Project Manager to formulate project goals and objectives, illustrating them in detailed schedules of time and values. Reviews baseline profit goals with the team and submits information to the Operations Manager and Vice President of Operations.
- Provides support in coordinating staffing requirements with the Project Manager, Regional Operations Manager, and/or General Superintendent.
- Assists with financial aspects of contracts, including change orders, applications for payment, contractor and supplier payments, equipment rentals, and back charges.
- Assists in preparing monthly financial projections and attends monthly financial reviews with the Business Unit Vice President and Vice President of Operations or Regional Operations Manager.
- Assists in monitoring and controlling construction activity and represents the company at project meetings. Supports the Project Manager in post-award pre-construction meetings with key subcontractors.
- Participates in post-project evaluations to carry "lessons learned" to future projects.
- Supervises, mentors, and trains the Project Engineer and Co-ops on the project. Ensures materials are expedited according to the project schedule. Performs Project Engineering duties if no Project Engineer is assigned.
- Supports quality control and ensures measures are taken within D&M policy. Maintains control logs, deviation reports, and other QC measures to resolve deviations promptly. Confirms all appropriate as-builts are received and submitted in a timely manner.
- Actively mentors the project team and assists less experienced coworkers to ensure long-term company success.
- Assists in early closeout goals and oversees the closeout process to ensure timely closeout, warranty, final as-built submission, and final payment.
- Performs additional assignments as directed by the Project Manager and/or Regional Operations Manager.
Requirements
Educational and experience requirements include a BS degree in engineering or construction management with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in construction or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Knowledge of construction, design, finance, and management, plus a thorough understanding of corporate and industry practices, standards, and procedures, is required.
