About the role

The Architectural Assistant Project Manager will provide overall project support and task management assistance to the Project Manager (PM) and Senior Project Manager on individual projects. The primary objective of the APM is to perform tasks and assist the PM and SPM in all aspects of a project to advance in knowledge and growth their skill set to a point of managing their own projects. Client coordination and communication with internal and external project teams will be fundamental characteristics for the prospective Assistant Project Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Promote DDG's core values, both internally and externally, and comply with the DDG Company Manual.
  • Achieve project objectives by working closely with the AutoCAD Operators, PM, and SPM on a daily basis.
  • Afford management of client needs, project scopes, budgets, support personnel, and schedule.
  • Coordinate with the PM or SPM concerning communication with client representatives and other members of the external project team.
  • Respond to client requests with a sense of urgency as coordinated with and directed by the PM.
  • Understand that we are a client-driven business and work will be required at times outside of normal business hours.
  • Take initiative to assist the project team with achieving the project objectives and improving the project management processes.
  • Obtain basic architectural data from documents, occupant interviews, and field measurements.
  • Conduct field measurements and observations as required for renovations, new construction, and space management.
  • Assist in preparing the Estimate or Probable Construction Cost and Project Budget.
  • Attend meetings with client, consultants, and other staff as required to coordinate project production.
  • Prepare preliminary design sketches and material and color selections for projects as required.
  • Prepare complete architectural working drawings and construction permit documents for stamp and signature of the supervising Architectural Project Manager; prepare specifications for the purchase of various materials and equipment required for projects.
  • Check architectural plans and details prior to final review by the Architectural Project Manager.
  • Review engineering plans to identify areas of conflict between various discipline’s drawings and specifications and work with other consultants to resolve design problems.
  • Continually monitor the progress and status of construction projects through site visits and discussions with construction supervisors and Client.
  • Check documents submitted by contractors for conformance to construction documents (Shop Drawings, construction submittals, etc…).
  • Develop and maintain job files to include submittals, change orders, and document modification.
  • Develop and/or prepare required correspondence for all aspects of project programming, design, estimating, bidding, construction, closeout, warranty, and other related issues.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Ability to analyze and assess construction project needs and to define efficient solutions.
  • Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
  • Knowledge of building design and construction principles, detailing, processes, methods, techniques, and standards.
  • Knowledge of architectural characteristics of building materials.
  • Knowledge of the principles of energy conservation applicable in building design.
  • Ability to investigate and analyze information to draw conclusions.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local building codes and standards.
  • Knowledge of all aspects of construction permits and documentation requirements.
  • Ability to prepare accurate plans, specifications, and other construction documents.
  • Knowledge of project management principles, practices, techniques, and tools.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of people in a diverse community.
  • Ability to develop and maintain record keeping systems and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to read and understand architectural, civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical drawings.
  • Ability to collect field data and accurately record findings.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor or Master of Architecture degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Maintains competency in and serves as major firm resource in field of expertise.
  • 0-3+ years of experience with architectural projects.
  • Path Underway to Professional Licensure. (preferred)
  • Experience with local jurisdictional governments related to design criteria and permitting.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills regarding project calls and correspondence.
  • Revit experience is preferred.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Certainly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery.
  • Must be able to travel to various project sites.
  • Must be able to access and navigate job sites and construction areas.
